Dr. Mary's Monkey
I just finished reading "Dr. Mary's Monkey:How the unsolved murder of a doctor, a secret laboratory in New Orleans and cancer-causing monkey viruses are linked to Lee Harvey Oswald, the JFK assassination and emerging global epidemics." The author is Edward T. Haslam.
I know I should be reading my text books but once I heard about this book, I could not be denied. It sounded like all the conspiracy theories out there (except crop circles and their creators) rolled into one and I expected the intellectual and entertainment values to be equivalent to a B-rated science fiction movie of the 1950s (which I happen to be mad about).
I was pleasantly surprised. The book is well written and very interesting. I won't give away the plot but Oswald features prominently in the book and if what Mr. Haslam has written is true, it would turn all that is known or imagined about Oswald, Kennedy, Castro and the mob on its figurative head.
The book contains the strangest cast of characters; bio-chemical researchers, "latins", Orthopedists turned virus researchers, Oswald and the woman who loved him, covert businessmen and my favorite and the strangest is David Ferrie. He was the character that Joe Pesci portrayed in Oliver Stone's JFK (1991). According to Haslam, Ferrie was running a small lab in a home's basement where they were injecting mutated viruses into mice in order to create cancers. These cancers were to be used as a bio weapon to kill Castro. Ferrie was an ex-priest wanna-be and a former airline pilot for Eastern Airlines. Nice to know people like him could be flying us around. Something happened to him and he lost his hair, eyebrows and eyelashes so he painted his eyebrows on and wore a red wig which makes him look rather odd. Here's a clip from JFK:
As I was reading the book, I couldn't help but think that if they could do some of the stuff that Haslam says they were doing in the 1950s to create cancers by mutating viruses with the limited technology they had then, what are "they" doing now that cloning, genetic alterations/combinations, etc are possible...just call me paranoid.
